Permanent Makeup for Synchronised Swimmers

From your armchair watching synchronised swimmers on TV, you may take a dim view of their athletic prowess, but Jenna Randall who with her partner Olivia Allison represented Britain at the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, describes her sport as, “like running the 400 metres while holding your breath, and smiling at the same time.”

In Beijing they were placed 14th…in London next year they plan to do better.

The presentation of a swimmer during their routine is considered part of their interpretation of the music being performed to, so looking good can make the difference between a first and second-place. And while the most important piece of equipment for synchronized swimmers is the nose clip, the second one is gelatin!

Dissolved unflavoured gelatin is used to keep the synchronized swimmer’s hair in place while she is spinning upside down and moving throughout the pool. Swimmers start by heating up a handful of gelatin until it melts into goo, then brush it through their hair and let it sit until it hardens. The result makes their hair like a clear helmet, but their hair stays in place instead of waving across their face during their two-minute routine.

Swimmers typically spend at least an hour preparing makeup, swimsuits and hair and with makeup a waterproof brand is essential, but we think they could spend a lot less time and look a whole lot better if they used permanent makeup for their eyebrows and eyeliner.

We’d love to help Britain win a medal at the Olympics next year, so if you’re Jenna Randall or Olivia Allison, come along for a consultation sometime and we’ll see how we can help you.

If you’re off on holiday sometime soon and simply want to look great every time you emerge from the pool or after a night in a steamy disco, then book a free consultation with us and we’ll see how we can help you too!
